Crystal Palace have now entered the race to sign a new centre-back, following an update on Marc Guehi’s future.

Palace vying to sign new centre-back with Guehi set to leave

Guehi’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning the captain will be able to leave Palace on a free transfer, but Fabrizio Romano has now hinted that a deal could be possible during the current transfer window.

The transfer expert said: “Man City want the deal to happen now, Man City are prepared to bid to Crystal Palace and try to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace for Marc Guehi.

“City believe it would not be a problem to reach a financial agreement with Crystal Palace for the defender. The real crucial point here is the player.

Originally, the Englishman was planning to leave the Eagles in the summer, but he now has a big decision to make, amid interest from Pep Guardiola’s side, and the 25-year-old is set to make his choice soon.

Should Guehi move on, it would exacerbate the need for Oliver Glasner to bring in a new centre-back, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Radu Dragusin and Udinese star Oumar Solet among the potential targets, and another Serie A defender has now entered the frame.

According to a report from Caught Offside, Crystal Palace have now entered the race to sign Como star Jacobo Ramon, who has attracted interest from a plethora of Premier League clubs, as a result of his performances in Italy this season.

The likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also named as potential suitors for the defender, but Real Madrid could pose a problem, as the Spanish club are able to buy their former defender back for just €8m (£7m).

Palace have been impressed by the youngster’s maturity, and feel he could be a good fit for the Premier League, but a deal could be on the expensive side, should Madrid choose to re-sign the Spaniard and sell him on for a profit.

"Elegant" Ramon could be exciting Guehi heir

With Guehi seemingly poised to move on, it would make sense to bring in another exciting young centre-back, and the Como defender certainly fits the bill, having put in some top performances in the Serie A.

Losing Guehi is far from ideal, but Ramon has proven he could be an excellent long-term replacement for the England international.
